To better enjoy the holidays with family and friends, which I believe is in sync with his campaign pledge of “making America greater than ever before,” President Donald Trump signed an executive order giving federal employees both Christmas Eve and Dec. 26 off from work (“President Trump signs order declaring Christmas Eve, Dec. 26 federal holidays,” Dec. 20).
Since the president is in such a festive mood, I would like to bring to his attention another holiday issue that needs to finally be addressed: the day after the Super Bowl, which is often referred to as “Super Sick Monday,” one of the most inefficient work days of the year.
Seven-time Super Bowl champion Tom Brady recently said that the day after the big game should be a holiday to let people better enjoy this mid-winter sporting event that unites people of all political stripes together.
As Trump wrote in his super brilliant 1987 autobiography, “The Art of the Deal,” “oftentimes, the simplest approach is the most effective.” I believe the easiest way to achieve this objective would be for the president to simply sign an EO making President’s Day a floating holiday that automatically backs up the Super Bowl.
According to my calculations, by strategically supplanting this already existing federal holiday that eliminates this inefficient calendar work day, the U.S. Treasury would recoup $640 million in annual lost tax revenue — in perpetuity!
Now that’s what I call “making America greater than ever before”! And if Tom Brady likes the idea, how bad can it be?
