Poland calls hearsay on whatever Lithuania says
Partly, it’s our own doing, Lithuania post independence in 1918 was a peasant country (I’m not saying it in any derogatory way), the state redistributed the lands that belonged to the wealthy landlords, that were mostly Polish speaking and very much identified themselves with PLC and GDL, for them GDL was not associated with the Lithuanian ethnicity/laguage, but was more about the political identity, the political freedoms. While the peasants mostly Lithuanian speaking defined them selves in opposition to the landlords, therefore PLC.
Lithuanian culture was anchored around peasant culture (dress, songs, folklore) as opposed to “high culture” of the lords in PLC, that was mostly Polish speaking.
Also Tsarist Russia tried to drive a wedge between Lithuanians and Poles during the whole of 19th century, which I guess had an impact on attitudes towards PLC. Same during the Soviet period.
Even today in popular culture, GDL is often regarded higher than PLC, though arguably early PLC (pre deluge) was the golden age of culture, tolerance and political freedoms (for its time).
