Understandable.
But how about a war against unemployment? A war against racism? A war against women violence?

  1. This is common with populist governments. Find a common “enemy” and do stuff that will hit the news fast and heavy while pretending you are actually doing something, even if you are in fact not helping at all. For those of us who come from less developed countries its pretty common, it just wild to me that in a society like this it has been working with no consequences.

  2. Is Finland really going to shit just as I’m supposed to go to uni there

  3. This is in fact quite literally the opposite of what is needed in Finland. The lack of usage of English in Finland is part of the issues facing Finland. Finland needs companies in particular to use more English, not less.

  4. This will be accompanied with an increase in high quality and accessible Finnish language courses for people both out of work and also in work/education right?

    Right?

  5. Good. Finnish langugage should be preserved, and we should be allowed to set expectations for immigrants to learn Finnish.

  6. rest assured tho.

we locals already know they´re worthless, their entire program is, has and will always be a nothing but a complete fucking failure and will never rise to prominence if their owners the kokoomus does not need a stool to step on.

this is all optics, they know they´ve been humiliated.

lest we forget, their entire voting base are the native unemployed and only two from their ranks voted against the law to make it easier to sack people

  7. Seems to be in line with their policies. Less ‘low quality’ immigration, promotion of finnish culture and language etc.

  8. Well, I guess I can turn up my war on this ass government by opting to speak even less Finnish than regular.

  9. im not from finland but isnt a problem just know finnish and not english? what i mean is, finnish is only speaked there in Finland and is kinda complicated learn finnish outside the country 😓

  10. Good, it has already begun to infest our language

  11. More culture war distraction. Ignore it and focus on what matters: what are the PS members in the ruling government coalition doing to improve Finland’s economic situation?

Nothing else matters; focus on the core issue and don’t let Purra succeed with her diversionary tactics.

  12. She is starting a war against the economic viability of the country. We are poor. We have no resources. We have massive military spending. We have a small population spread over a lot of land. Who will ever invest in a country like that were there is a policy against the official use of English? How did Luxembourg became the highest GDP country on Earth? by passing a law making German and French (their closest trading partners) officially acceptable as languages to communicate with both public administration and the judiciary IN 1984 (and without changing the status of Luxembourgish as the only state language). The perunasuomalaset really want to sell us to Putin cheap.

  13. Yes. Lets do English speaking world after Asia. Africa and middle east have been Persu target long.

Some people just need hate to keep going. Such a sad way to spend own life

  14. How in the world can the ability to use several languages be worse than using only one?

  15. So where’s the link, you just posted a screenshot where the blurb doesn’t even say anything related to the title? Also I couldn’t find such article anywhere, while you didn’t provide any insight to what this is even about. So basically all the comments are now speaking out their ass not even knowing what this is about.

  16. No need to declare war, there was an article just a while ago how young students can’t speak english anymore except for some meme phrases. Or rather, the students have split into two groups, one which is proficient and one which is hopeless.

  17. Dear politicians. Choose the right war that helps build the society, not the one that discriminates against it.

  18. That shit eating grin on her face. I hope she stubs her toe. And by stubs her toe I mean gets run over by a semi truck

  19. Just because you struggle to learn it, doesn’t mean you should fight it 😂

  20. I would love a coherent explanation of how this particular issue is even in the top 10 list of things Finland is struggling with. At worst it will actively cost money and maybe even raise unemployment: so many immigrants are working in service jobs and get by on English, for example. (I realize there isn’t one aside from the normal populist bs but seriously…this is a solution searching for a problem.)

  21. I am a Finn, did my entire post-secondary education here, I have worked for many years, used to own a business in Finland. I was going to create another start-up here.

However, the economic situation is so bad and I genuinely dislike the government so much that I have taken a job on the otherside of the world for just about 2x the salary and I think I might start my tech operation there instead.

I am just really not interested in having to see people’s lives get worse every single day while some clown getting paid by the taxpayers is too busy making racist gestures to do anything useful for the country. Not to mention the fact that this government’s economic policy is something an infant would come up with…and i’ve had enough of dealing with the Kokoomus idiots at work who are convinced it is going to work out. The ones born with a silver spoon in their mouths. I kept telling them it probably isn’t, I kept pointing out that a heavy recession is probably a likely outcome, I kept stating the so-called ‘kela thieves’ are so few it is not worth worrying about. I also pointed out that there’s no point voting for a government that supports high-income earners if nobody has jobs. Still they went and voted for them. Can you imagine they went through a whole business degree without understanding Economics 101.

At least I got to laugh at some of them when they went through a round of layoffs. Maybe they will learn that it’s all fun and games to makes living difficult for unemployed people, until you become one of them too.

I really doubt that I am the only one who is leaving.

  22. Could someone provide a link for me about this? Tried googling, but couldn’t find much of anything recent about it. Don’t get me wrong, this sounds exactly like kind of shit persut would go for, but I’m interested to read more about their braindead arguments for it.

  23. funny cause most of native finnish speakers (99%) always switch to english when non-native finnish speakers speak finnish with a small accent and mistakes, or even to native speakers who don’t look Finnish to them…

  24. A nation with a population of less than a larger European city and an obscure / hard to learn language cannot afford to act as if we were French when it comes to “preserving the national language” or whatever.

  25. Yeah hearing that after being cut on Finnish courses for the last 5 months does really start to make sense

  26. Unemployment is already low and Finnish language is useless for worldwide economy, meanwhile English is a language which is worldwide spoken.

  27. When I go to restaurant I want to get service in finnish. So I’m with Purra with that.

  28. Finns already suck at English pronunciation which makes it difficult in work environments facing different markets. Like it or not English is the official language of the world. Why make Finland even more isolated than it already is? Idiots.

  29. Honestly living in a foreign country and not learning the language seems just weird. Finns already speak way more English than in many other countries even in EU. Foreigners already complain nobody speaks Finnish to them even if they wanted to practice.

But making a big deal out of it isn’t great either, just make it a general expectation, stop offering free translation services and such. If people pay with their own money they can do whatever. If you move to France learn French. Portuguese for Brazil etc.

On the other hand Finnish courses and education sucks as well. Firstly they need to get rid of “equalisation” and pitiful target levels. Honestly it feels like the attitude is that foreigners are so stupid the target level is to be able to drive a taxi for Finnish customers. Then years and years of courses with very really actual learning…

First thing I would do is to find the best teachers in the country and generously pay them to make free courses, materials and exercises that are freely available in one place. Mooc style. Organise some practice groups with Finnish tutors both online and. offline.

And stop treating Finnish like it’s some alien language, impossible for foreigners to learn. It’s a very logical and well structured language. Obviously people are screwed if the teaching method is to memorize tables of different forms of words and repeat them like parrots.

That’s really a perfect way to end up with people who go to courses for years but don’t learn anything. Surely the money keeps flowing so it works as a business…

  30. Persut declares war against something I’ll choose the side of their “enemy”. I’ll be speaking even worse finglish from now on.

  31. Is this AI? I can’t find this article, also the sign looks weird.

  32. You will find this government only active to anything related to immigrants 😂😂😂

The country are burning behind them with shit economy and they are sitting to think, ohh what the next ?

Next time they will say, immigrants should not get same salary as finnish😂😂😂
