The most conservative catholics are actually pretty “progressive” and they have been advocating for gay and women’s rights already decades ago because that’s what Jesus would do, you know. The modern self-proclaimed conservatives are just larping as christian-conservatives. This guy gets it.

German speaking catholics, at least the western German branch, are probably the least hostile group of people you will come across. Multiple Churches are literally flying pride flags here during pride month. My great uncle goes to church service every Sunday and probably never voted anything anyone else but the CDU, yet has a very close relationship to his lesbian daughter and her partner who is active in the Green Party. And I know multiple similar families like them. They even talk about politics etc. without fighting
