It’s hard not to be happy when the Chicago Bears snatch victory away from the Green Bay Packers teeth as the Bears did Saturday at Soldier Field.
The packers had the win, but two key fumbles gave the Bears, who despite leading the NFL in wins, were struggling to complete needed touchdown drives. The Bears have screwed up so many times, it’s hard to imagine they are in the lead.
Now, I am no sports observer or commentator. When it comes to Football, I am an “Easter Sunday Christian,” meaning I only watch Bears football games when they get down to the last 5 minutes of play. That’s when things really start to happen and the game gets fun.
I haven’t gone to a Bears game in years. Ticket prices are too high and range from $350 to $1,400, depending on where you hope to sit. Although I am not on welfare, that’s way too much to spend on a ticket.
Bears ticket prices are no different than the out-of-reach prices for stage theater performances or concerts. The last time I saw the Rolling Stones, it cost $1,400 for a decent seat.
Costs are way out of whack. Athletes and performers are making millions, driving up the costs to the rest of us schlepers.
For me, the Chicago Bears’ win, though, has rejuvenated my outlook on many things, including in politics, the only real “sport” in Chicagoland. It shows that anything can happen. The Bears were minutes away from losing when the Packers screwed up and the Bears rallied first with a 3 point field goal and then an amazing touchdown.
It doesn’t help that our President, Donald J. Trump, who wants to put his name on everything and may even change the name of this country to “Trumpland,” is bad at math. With Trump’s halucinations on the economy, something needs to be done quickly. Renaming the Kennedy Center, which memorializes one of America’s greatest presidents, John F. Kennedy, to the Donald J. Trump and John F. Kennedy Center is disturning, egomaniacal and probably even illegal.
If you are not good at math, how do you shore up our weak ands falling economy?
As an example of his total incompetency, and self-centered concern for himself over the rest of us schleps, Trump recently claimed he was going to reduce the costs of prescription drugs “400 percent, 500 percent maybe even 600 percent.”
Really? Even a C student like me knows that you can only reduce a price 100 percent.
Let’s say a drug costs $100. If you reduce 100 percent, the cost is ZERO. If you reduce it 600 percent, the costs are -500, which means the pharmaceutical robber barons would have to pay everyday Americans $500 to take their drugs.
The real problem is that the pharmaceutical companies and Trump are working together to profit. Everything Trump does is intended to make money for him and his family first, then his partners, then the business world, and maybe might help everyday Middle Class Americans, or the poor who especially need our help.
Our economy sucks, no matter how many times Trump brags that it is “the best.” It’s not. It is disappointing that Trump allows ego and exaggeration to get in the way of some of his good ideas.
Trump can’t seem to miss an opportunity to slam anyone who dares to challenge him, which distracts from his objectives and sends the public discussion in every direction except where the discussions should go.
ODDS AND ENDS:
Joey Ruzevich had a great fundraiser at Al-Bawadi Restaurant in Bridgeview where he was endorsed for the March 17th Democratic Primary Election against unresponsive US Rep. Sean Casten in the 6th Congressional District, by former Congresswoman Marie Newman … Niki Conforti is making strides as the Republican candidate in the 6th Congressional District and hopefully will help reforge the Republican Party organization from the downslide it has been on for years … the political buzz is to see Lyons Mayor Chris Getty enter the race for Congress to succeed US Rep Jesus “Chuy” Garcia. Imagine having someone in that seat who actually does something for the taxpayers?
Cheers to 25x National Boxing Champion Joseph “JoJo” Awinongya who is on his way to the 2028 Boxing Olympics, someone many see as a modernday successor to Mohammed Ali. Check out my video podcast interview with him posted on my YouTube.com/@RayHananiachannel. His trainer is Wasfi Tolaymat, the Angelo Dundee of the Arab Community. It was supported by the American Arab Chamber of Commerce.
If I had to pick someone to be President of the United States, it would by Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene. She has the Chutzpah to do what needs to be done for Americans.
Shoutouts to Mahnoor Ahmad who is running for a seat on the DuPage County Board, at MahnoorforDuPage.com. And John Harrell running for the Illinois House to succeed Le Shawn Ford, at HarrellForIllinois.com.
There is a lot of excitement about Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas, who has refuned hundreds of millions of dollars in overpayments to property tax owners, running for Mayor of Chicago in the election on February 23, 2027. She has the ideas and is one of the county’s highest vote-getters.
