Ozempic craze: Approved for diabetes, growing use in obesity • FRANCE 24 English
For anyone who overindulged during the holidays, the hype around weight-loss drugs like Ozempic can be tempting. Originally developed to treat diabetes, the medication suppresses appetite, and in the U.S., where oversized portions and fast food reign, its effects are even noticeable in New York restaurants. Matthew-Mary Caruchet reports.

The price of the meal matches the size of the portion in New York City, so that’s a good deal.
For some people this is life saver keeping from a slow death from obesity but for someone like me who got a small spare tire I just need to eat better and walk more
There is not enough discussion about some of the potential very serious side effects of this medication.
What is frightening is that studies are now showing that 60% (yes, SIXTY PERCENT) of the weight loss from GLP drugs is BONE AND MUSCLE!!! These cannot be regained once lost. The drug manufacturers are cashing in on the craze and humans taking the drugs are the guinea pigs for long term studies!!!
kind of a funny twist, this makes me think of Saturday Night Live way back in 1977, The Cone-heads, "consume mass quantities" and " we are from France ", and now France News telling us about Americans trying so hard to stop consuming so much
In my country – a Scandinavian one – Ozempic is free. But doctors are not allowed to prescribe it to obese patients unless there is a serious underlying disease. The reasoning is ethically complicated, since type II diabetes is often self-inflicted.
My mother’s generation was basically prescribed speed (barbiturates) for weightloss. My own mother was a nut job during those years and made the lives of her children a living hell. You will never convince me that medication is the way to go, unless you are a diabetic. Eat less people, put the phone down and get outside!
