Tory MP stands by ‘common sense’ claim food bank users can’t cook properly

  1. Just a disgusting, despicable, evil man. Why are these goblins running our government when they are utterly devoid of empathy?

I try not to make assumptions but I’d eat my hat if that’s not what a significant majority of Tory MPs think but know it’s not smart to say out loud. There’s a correlation between this thinking and the way their handling of the pandemic has gone, too.

  2. Tory politicians use the term ‘common sense’ in much the same way conspiracy theorists use the word FACT. Incorrectly…

  3. Has he polled food bank users? His source is his arse and he knows it. He just cannot fathom that people are poor because of the society we have allowed to be built, not because of character failings. The Tories approach poverty from a Victorian perspective, it is why they offer Victorian solutions.

  4. > The Tory MP told Times Radio: “There are generations of people there who simply haven’t got the skills to budget properly and go shopping and do a proper weekly shop, like we did back in the day.
    >
    > He added: “I’ll stick to my point … There is a massive problem in this country where people simply cannot cook.”

Isn’t that similar to comments you often see on here about how junk food is actually expensive and it is a lot cheaper if you learn to cook and plan your shopping?

  5. You kind of need food to cook with first though. I mean, I’m pretty good in the kitchen, but I can’t cook a meal for two out of fresh air.

  6. It’s blame and deflection, because obviously (in his world) everyone has enough money if only they used it effectively

    Utter cunt.

  7. There comes a point where all the budgeting in the world can’t help your financial position. If you are poor, you are poor, you can’t budget what you don’t have.

Instead of shaming people and penalising them for being poor why not actually help them? It’s very hard to pull yourself up by your bootstraps when you’ve had to boil them to feed your family.

Of course in “fuck you I got mine” Tory land basic compassion and humanity for your fellow humans is considered Lefty woke feely nonsense.

  8. I bet he has zero problems with his £300,000 + earnings to cook an evening meal after a hard day arse-licking Boris.

  9. He should be given £20 and forced to cook nutricious meals for the whole week taking into account levels of physical activity and dietary requirements. Can’t do it? Must be just him lacking ‘common sense’.

  10. I’d like to see him work an exhausting job 6 days a week and still have the time or energy to prepare and cook cheap healthy meals for himself and his family. What a disassociated cock-womble.

Asshole claimed more money in expenses than i make in a few years.

How do these people profess to “Represent us” i’ll never know.

  11. Let’s go on a flight of fancy, let’s say he is right and poor people don’t know how to cook..

What is his answer? Providing some sort of help and assistance to those in need of education? Public information on how to cook? Education reform to make sure future generations leave school with suitable life skills?

Because at the minute it seems his ideas are to laugh at the thickos and leave them to starve.. that can’t be the case? Right?

  12. Ashfield MP Lee Anderson has a yearly earning of **£84,144** as an MP.

He claimed **£219,703** in expenses and business costs from 2020 to 2021, which is nearly £16,000 higher the average expenses costs for an MP.

Fuck me, the “average” expense costs for an MP is around the £203.000 mark? No wonder they don’t have a sodding clue about what it’s like for your average Joe.

  13. Even if these MPs believe the shit they say, do they not have like PR staff to tell them like… yeah, but don’t shout about it mate.

  14. This is the guy who, as a Labour candidate, smeared his Lib Dem (now independent) opponent with false allegations of sexual abuse and then defected to the Tories.

There’s a reason why Ashfield District Council has a massive “Ashfield Independent” majority. And its not because Jason Zadrozny is actually much good.

  15. He’s partially right. People who can’t afford to eat also struggle to get cooking facilities. One thing we have to do at our Foodbank is make sure we provide food that’s suitable for the cooking facilities people have. That can range from someone who has just lost their job and was living on the breadline but has a good working oven to someone fleeing domestic violence who is being put up in a hotel for a day or two while the council rehome them.

I have to be realistic though, there are some people who struggle with budgeting and lack cooking skills, they’re often people struggling with mental health issues and all we can really do is signpost them to people who can help and advise them.

  16. I had a patient yesterday who, among other issues, has insulin dependent diabetes. He was unable to work and living on universal credit etc and cannot even afford the cost of buying and paying bills on a fridge. He has to collect his insulin every couple of weeks because it doesn’t stay stable for long at room temperature. He had a microwave and that was it. Now how in all the hells is someone in that sort of situation meant to “cook properly” when they have no FUCKING facilities and cannot even store their life sustaining medicines correctly?

I’m sure some people will read this and think it’s an extreme example but it isn’t. People in this situation have been dying for years due to the destitution austerity has forced on this country. And now this cosseted little cunt, who has undoubtedly never faced adversity and never even considered what true poverty looks like, thinks it at all appropriate to lecture people on how stupid and incapable they are? These tory bastards have been boiling my piss for years, but by god I hope they are all not only kicked out next election, but shunned from all civil society until they have to live the way they have been forcing others to for the last decade.

  17. 99% of the time when someone says ” Its common sense” what they actually mean is “I believe this to be true without evidence and without really having thought about it”.

  18. Ah yes that winning bell end who boycotted England’s first ever Euros final to protest the players taking the knee.

Exactly the peak of judgement and common sense that bloke.

  19. From a man who had to use £210k of expenses on top of his £80k a year wage, he has no right to say this.

He can’t even budget on £80k.

  20. I dont understand what he thinks people get from food banks? Like isnt most of it tinned food that you have to then make a meal out of? MFer here acting like its take out…

  21. Don’t you get ingredients from a food bank? Don’t you still need to cook them? So what does it matter if they can or can’t cook in relation to visiting a food bank?

  22. Coming from the party where a current minister on a TV show about living on not much snuck a £50 note between her tits.
