‘The Island Without Time’ (Summarøy)

A fascinating read about Summarøy (a stone’s throw from the *city* of Tromsø) as it is today!

I didn’t know about all this clocks and time drama, but the island serves as a bit of a modern ethnographic window into how people used to live before we had precise time-telling.

It’s also interesting to see how folks up there live and the ways in which people study their lives!

Sidenote: why did everyone leave Hillesøy? I read that a lot of folks moved to Summmarøy from there earlier, but I’m not seeing what actually caused its dissolution.
