My dear aunt’s dog, Ollie, has endured a swift illness and now upon guidance, will be put down any time now.

Our dog, Rufus, is thankfully still with is. Though my Dad died earlier this year. So, just wanted to post this picture for posterity and in hope that they exist as far forward as this platform continues.

Ollie, 8. RIP ❤️

(In the photo, Ollie on the left, Rufus on the right. And in case you didn’t guess, my Dad sleeping in the middle after what I think was a family party 😄).

  1. Oh, I’m sorry. It’s lovely to have the memories, but we’d rather have our precious people and pets here and healthy, with us. What a cute picture.

  2. Such a dad thing. Falling asleep with the dogs in the living room holding your glasses. Treasure your memories.

  3. Beautiful dogs. This is a lovely photo, perfect mix of sweet and chaotic! This can be such a rough time of year experiencing the first Christmas without a loved one, and adding the loss of a beloved pet must be so tough. Hope you and your family are doing as well as can be given the circumstances. Sending love (and extra pats to Rufus) 💕

  4. This is a lovely picture. Thank you for sharing with us. 🫂

  5. I’m not even in Europe and this sub keeps getting recommended to me lol. RIP Ollie tho, surely she was a good one.

  6. Have you got a favourite memory of your lovely Dad and the dogs? I’d love to hear it if you feel up to sharing 💕

  7. Beautiful picture and sorry to hear what Ollie is going through and what will happen eventually.

  8. I just realised I didn’t mention that Rufus is Ollie’s brother. So though of course he’ll be smothered with love more than usual, I wonder if he’ll understand? Who knows. The best we can do is to continue the love we have for him and, though it’s been several months since his death, pass on my Dad’s love to him too.

  9. I’m sorry to hear about your dad and aunt’s dog. We had to have our beautiful 10 year old cat put to sleep this morning after a swift battle with cancer. My partner lost his dad a month ago. This year has been awful.

I appreciate you sharing this and hope that next year is kinder to you.

  10. Awww I understand this urge, my granddad died long before the internet but some odd site must’ve scrapped some old companies house record and there was ‘his name & sons’ recorded for prosperity. Gave me a little thrill.

  11. For a moment there, I thought there was a huge cat on the sofa!

  12. Oh OP 🫂 Sending you and yours love and strength. Have fun at the rainbow bridge Ollie x

  13. My boy will be waiting to meet Ollie as soon as he crosses. Give Echo a massive cuddle for me please boy.

  14. Picture really brightened my day. Thank you for sharing. Sending love and good vibes in your direction

  15. The Ideal crash pad/man cave. Good on ya, enjoy.

  16. Update: Ollie has cross the rainbow road.

Love you boy! Rufus will be wondering where his visiting companion is

    I can’t stop crying

  17. I am so sorry for your loss and sending you so much love.

We’re in the same spot. Christmas Eve we were told he won’t get better and we can manage the next few days with meds, but when do you know it’s time? My dad is heartbroken. I don’t know how he is ever going to get over the pain of it when it’s finally time.

Dogs are the most precious things aren’t they?

  18. Tbh Christmas is always a shitty time of year for many, it gets better though. Just don’t focus on the loss, focus on the joy everyone brought to your life.

Believe me, that makes it easier.
