North Korea confirms test launch of cruise missiles

According to a report from the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), the exercise involved specialized missile sub-units. Its stated purpose was to verify firing procedures, the missiles’ maneuverability, and the reliability of what Pyongyang calls a crucial strategic weapon system. The missiles followed set trajectories over the West Sea before hitting their intended targets.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un personally observed the launches, with KCNA quoting him as expressing “great satisfaction” with the outcome. He framed the regular testing of nuclear deterrent components as a legitimate right to self-defense, citing persistent external security threats to justify the development.

The report also featured Kim reaffirming Pyongyang’s unwavering commitment to further developing its nuclear combat forces. Such provocations contribute to regional instability in Northeast Asia and underscore the ongoing challenges to global non-proliferation efforts, concerns shared by the international community, including Türkiye.
