European equity markets were set to open slightly higher on Monday, kicking off the final trading week of the year.

Trading volumes are expected to remain thin as the Christmas holiday period continues, with regional markets closing on Thursday for New Year’s Day.

Meanwhile, markets are digesting geopolitical developments after President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said talks to end the war have made progress, though several difficult issues remain.

Zelensky also noted that about 90% of a 20-point peace plan has been agreed, including full agreement on security guarantees.

There are no major European earnings or data releases scheduled for today.

In pre-market trading, Euro Stoxx 50 and Stoxx 600 futures rose 0.4% and 0.3%, respectively.
