Hi, I wanted to ask people who live in the capital if you would like to tram system to return to your city? I know that tram rails disappeared in 1970s. I know you have now modern, new metro system, buses and great bike lines. I ask becouse trams are my favourite. Cheaper than metro, more accesible and is great to slow down traffic. What is your opinion? In controast to bus line or metro line it can also heave cool grass sedum cover. The average resident of Copenhagen probably most likely don’t remember a time when the city had trams, how do you regret not having something you’ve never had?
Trams would be cool enough yes. But since I’ve never lived anywhere with trams, nor known Copenhagen while it had any, how would I know if it would improve anything?
Having lived in cities with trams before, not at all. There is the metro and the s-tog, I don’t see a big need for a tram on top of that.
We have a great bus, train and metro system, so i dont see what trams would bring to the table.
It’s just another bus, what’s so special it can go but a bus can’t?
I’ve seen enough videos of idiots driving into/in front of trams to know that we don’t want that.
Don’t the trams outside of CPH breakdown or are unable to drive as a soon as speck of frost appears?
With all the trouble trams/letbanetog have in both construction and use-phases we’ve seen on other places in Denmark (Aarhus especially springs to mind), I’m sure busses are much more reliable, both mechanically and economically. 🙂
the metro has a lot of advantages, but i think the rest of this is actually a question about cars
if the trams had to share the roads with cars the way the buses mostly do then there’s not much of a point to it. but if they (mostly) had their own separate lanes they would be very useful
Yes and no.
I think Copenhagen infrastructure is really good now, so it’s not necessary. The metro is effective and well functioning.
However
We should definitely have made a tram system instead of the metro, as it would have been way cheaper to construct and do more or less the same. Travel times would be a bit worse though. But I think this would have been a fair trade, taken the funding of the metro into consideration. This is the case because Copenhagen funds the construction of the metro by selling scarce and valuable nature for construction purposes.
I feel like the metro is a better solution in every way.
It doesn’t take up space from cars and busses, and it is faster, and has higher capacity, runs more often… etc. etc.
I don’t know why we would want trams, except some romantic idea that they look cute or something…?
We are currently building a [light rail system](https://www.dinletbane.dk/en/) on the outskirts of the city. But honestly, metro and busses seem a better and more flexible solution within the city. Trams are vulnerable to all kinds of problems. Most of us just bike everywhere anyways.
Yes. Any Copenhagener who has spent more than 5 minutes in a city with well-functioning tram system (e.g. Oslo, Amsterdam, Berlin, etc.) wishes that we still had them here.
If you want to learn more about the historic development of the Copenhagen transport infrastructure this video is quite insightful:

We have bicycles ruling the city. There’s no need for a team system here
