Rishi Sunak threatens energy firms with windfall tax

  1. Even the language BBC uses is bias. “threatens”. I’m sure they are many other fitting words I stead of making out the energy companies are the victim

  2. >Rishi Sunak threatens energy firms with windfall tax

How many weeks have Labour been pushing this?

They react to sensible ideas with knejerk Tory principles, but as soon as they see a policy suggestion gains traction with the electorate principles fly out the window and they claim the policy was thought up by them in the first place!

  3. Rich twats couldn’t be more disconnected from reality, and lack the empathy to care anyway. They will realise just how bad things are when the people storm parliament.

  4. Even if this tax does go ahead, can pretty much guarantee the money would be squandered rather than going to anything useful, as is the Tory way.

  5. After the extra revenue is plundered and the cost of working out a scheme to help those most vulnerable deducted this will be about as useful as the reduction in fuel duty.

For the record I’d usually be all for it but not with these clowns managing it.

  6. If they don’t invest enough in new project just sounds to me like he’s telling them hide your profits so we are not forced by the people we serve to tax you

  7. A windfall tax on energy firms of £150 per household then next year you all have to pay it back to them with interest and you have to call your first born Boris de Pfeffel Shell.

  8. Seems like the BP boss saying it would be fine has really made their position (understanably) difficult. I suspect they’re quite annoyed at him.

Wonder if the BP boss would be so in favour if it was just BP that got windfall taxed…

What a silly u-turn this would be for the government though, total dysfunction.

  9. Is this Rishi’s first foray into the public eye since the entire country took a dump on him a fortnight ago? I was thinking yesterday that he’d been very quiet since then.

  10. People in Sri Lanka are showing how you deal with the corrupt political class.
People here are too apathetic in my opinion for a national movement though.

  11. How about instead of threatening, he puts his big boy pants on and do it. This is just him trying to sound like he’s doing something without actually doing it.

  12. They need to stop talking and actually do something..
They will do things to fool. The public that’s all..

And ask his wife to pay her tax also

  13. Long overdue and clearly just trying to win back favour with the voters while giving the energy scammers time to hide their profits.

  14. Did the head of exxon forget to send his wife a birthday card or somthing? Hilarious

Imagine thinking the tories would do somthing to tax the rich and benefit the poor, best laugh I’ve had all day

  15. It’s hardly a threat when the energy firms have been asking for it, You would think they would understand a threat after the pasting they got in the council elections.

  16. He’s being deliberately vague. No specifics about how much they should invest and no specifics on how much they would be taxed.

This governing is full of vague promises and policies

  17. So he’s basically said ‘guys you need to spend your money or get it off your books or I am going to be forced to tax you and help people’

  18. Don’t give a flying fuck what the Tory’s do now. I won’t forget what’s been said and done over the past 2-3 years and neither should anyone else. It shouldn’t matter what they pull from their sleeves from here on, because it’s all only done to protect themselves and their friends.

  19. Tories selling the National assets doesn’t seem like a great move now. Privatise it all to the Moon, cheers Maggie

  20. Rich bullshitter with business friends in energy firms makes vague threat to do something that would directly disadvantage him

  21. Threatens? Fuck me Sunak you’re the Chancellor. You can tax anyone you like.
    Just get on with it.
