Are they still alive once they’ve been washed up? Also, why are there so many of them..?

  1. Warmer weather bringing them closer to shore and then get stuck woth a fast tide going out. Probably tonnes more that went out with the tide but these got held up trying to leave

  2. They’re dead once washed up, but they can still sting – these ones are quite mild, but best not to touch just in case

  3. Most of them won’t survive long once they’re stranded like this, especially if the sun is out. It’s usually down to recent strong winds or tides pushing them toward the shore. Best to keep dogs away just in case they still have a bit of a sting left in them

  4. We had thousands of starfish wash up locally last week.

  5. When I was little my dad and I got stung by a bunch of them. I got one in the face, arm, and body, and the guy behind the bar on the beach said put some tomatoes on to neutralise the sting. It worked. There was a bowl of them all chopped up on the bar. Must’ve been a common occurrence.

    Anyway, this beach looks terrifying.

  6. These look like the ones we used to use for jellyfish wars when we were kids. It’s exactly what you’re imagining.
