A new year means a new batch of TV shows and movies to stream, with Netflix providing several fresh thrillers, a book-to-screen rom-com adaptation with People We Meet on Vacation, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck’s crime film The Rip, and the return of Bridgerton for Season 4. But before the clock strikes midnight and 2026 begins, you’ll want to watch some beloved shows and movies before they leave the streaming site in Canada in the new year.

Steven Spielberg’s film E.T. will be removed from Netflix next month, along with another beloved film, My Girl, starring Anna Chlumsky, Macaulay Culkin, Jamie Lee Curtis and Dan Aykroyd. Additionally, Jaws and Forrest Gump, starring Tom Hanks and Robin Wright, will be leaving the streaming site in January.

Star Trek titles will also be removed from Netflix next month, along with The Naked Gun and The Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult. That’s in addition to Maid in Manhattan starring Jennifer Lopez, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Sideways, The Mummy with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, and Beyoncé Bowl, the halftime show on NFL Christmas Gameday in Houston, Texas.

What to watch on Netflix: New TV shows and moviesRun Away — Jan. 1

Run Away, the latest Harlan Coben mystery series, stars James Nesbitt as Simon Greene, who has a seemingly “perfect” life with his wife, Ingrid (Minnie Driver), and kids, until his eldest daughter Paige (Ellie de Lange) runs away. Private investigator Elena Ravenscroft (Ruth Jones) is invested in the case, as is Detective Isaac Fagbenle (Alfred Enoch), after the last person Paige was seen with, Aaron (Thomas Flynn), is found murdered. Secrets are revealed throughout the search.

His & Hers — Jan. 8

While Anna (Tessa Thompson) has left her career as a news anchor behind, she steps into the role of field reporter when she hears about a murder in her hometown. Meanwhile, her husband Jack (Jon Bernthal) is the detective investigating the case.

“Ultimately, it’s about narratives,” Bernthal told Tudum. “It’s about the narratives that we build for ourselves to protect ourselves.”

People We Meet on Vacation — Jan. 9

Based on Emily Henry’s bestselling book, People We Meet on Vacation introduces us to Alex (Tom Blyth) and Poppy (Emily Bader), who have been best friends for a decade. They live in different cities, but have an annual summer vacation together, and the big question is whether Alex and Poppy could be more than friends.

Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials — Jan. 15

Set in 1925 England, Mia McKenna-Bruce stars in Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials, a three-part series written by Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall. McKenna-Bruce plays young sleuth Lady Eileen “Bundle” Brent, who’s determined to investigate after a practical joke at a country house party takes a murderous turn. The series also stars Helena Bonham Carter, Martin Freeman, Corey Mylchreest, Ed Bluemel and Nabhaan Rizwan.

The Rip — Jan. 16

Another Matt Damon and Ben Affleck collaboration, written and directed by Joe Carnahan, The Rip is about a team of Miami cops. Trust among the group begins to waver when they find millions in cash in a stash house, and “outside forces” learn about the high-value seizure. The film’s impressive cast also includes Steven Yeun, Teyana Taylor and Kyle Chandler.

Bridgerton, Season 4 — Jan. 29

The Bridgerton story continues with Season 4, as Part 1 is focused on the romance between Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) and Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha).

“We’ve experienced Benedict through the seasons as a little theme that crops up occasionally now and again,” Thompson told Tudum. “To get to spend a full eight episodes digging into him and making a whole symphony about him, it’s great.”

Part 2 of Bridgerton Season 4 will be released on Netflix Feb. 26.
