Thailand and Cambodia hold talks on resuming ceasefire • FRANCE 24 English

Military officials from Thailand and Cambodia began talks on Wednesday, both countries said, days after the neighbours agreed to discuss resumption of a ceasefire after 16 days of fierce border clashes that have killed at least 86 people. The talks come two days after a special meeting in Kuala Lumpur of Southeast Asian foreign ministers convened to try to salvage a truce first ‍brokered by ASEAN chair Malaysia and US President Donald Trump after a previous round of clashes in July.

  1. Thailand never wants to stop, it has cards to play against our country. Dialogue alone doesn’t solve this Thailand’s invasion. The world order has already become a mess, the strong invade the poor.

  2. Cambodia calls on the world to witness the suffering of its people caused by Thailand’s aggression—civilians harmed, World Heritage sites, homes, schools, and pagodas destroyed. We seek peace and justice, not war. Silence enables injustice please 🥺😢

  3. For those who are dumb enough to believe that Cambodian leaders want this war, let me clear your head. I will begin with Cambodia politic. What reason does the CPP (ruling party) want from war? When they are the sole party for more than 4 decade? oposition are crushed, the general public opinion does not want distability, only the well being of their lively hood. What possible reason that Cambodian leaders have to do initatie this war?

Now turning to the Thai side, the miltiary support is in all time low before the war, the result is crystal clear from the last election, how many pravit wongsowan party gain? how many vote does the Prayuth party gain ? all are pro-military. BUt the winner is move forward party, even if they are dissolved, the military cannot form their own government simply because they do not have enough seat to do so.

See which one have a more motive to initate conflict? the pattern remain the same from time to time, the 2008 clash last time, was that due to poltiical deadlock in thailand, which spiral to Cambodia, the so-called rally effect, is quite effective to calm the public, but at what cost? At the expense of its own neigbor. What a hyprocit

  4. Just have a third party country supervise the demining efforts preferably the U.S because they could loan Thailand some of their demining vehicles.

  5. Thailand calls upon all parties to bear witness to the defense of its sovereignty under international law. We condemn the actions of Hun Sen and Hun Manet, the leaders of Cambodia, Regarding violations of international laws and treaties.

1.Violating the Hague Treaty giving permission to use historical sites as military bases, weapons installations, or hiding places for troops to attack enemies will cause them to lose their status as protected cultural assets and become legitimate military targets.

2.Violation of International Humanitarian Law regarding indiscriminate attacks: The use of weapons that cannot be restricted to specific military targets, resulting in indiscriminate impact on both civilians and military personnel.

3.The use of civilian buildings as military bases or weapons depots in the context of conflict. Under the Geneva Conventions, civilian buildings (such as schools, hospitals, or residences) are protected from attack, but if they are used for military purposes, they become "legitimate military targets."

4.Violations of international humanitarian law; criminal offenses (war crimes).Regarding the use of human shields: Placing civilians in strategic positions to prevent attacks by the enemy, or using civilians to obstruct military operations, constitutes a war crime.

  6. If both countries argued that both sides are harming civillians and all, why not stop the fighting??? Civillians are the sandwich between the politicial agenda. STOP this nonsense fighting that has no benefit but lost.

  7. Today, Thailand used F-16 jets to carry out 60 bombing strikes on Cambodian land. This goes beyond a border conflict, it is a war crime. We only want to live in peace, but Thailand does not.
