I think we’re pretty lucky in Switzerland with regards to our public transportation system. Don’t worry, I’m also the Bünzli that sighs and rolls my eyes when a train is 3 minutes late.

I set out to demonstrate this by using… GeoGuessr. If you don’t know the game, you have to find your location by exclusively using Google Street View imagery in 5 random locations. It’s honestly great fun (and quite easy in Switzerland because we have signs literally everywhere).

The premise of my challenge is simple: can I go to all 5 (random) points in the same day by using public transportation (and walking of course), and recreate the Google Street View image? My intuition is that, most of the time, this is very feasible in Switzerland. Of course, you can always get a constellation of points that renders the whole ordeal unfeasible.

But that was not the case of the first game I launched with this goal in mind. You can see all relevant details in the links below. Long story short, I could even start **and** end my journey from and to Lausanne, which is where I’m currently living! Everything went well and as predicted, although I almost missed my train in Visp…

It was very satisfying to organise everything and to travel across Switzerland. I can only recommend you do the same, if you’re as big a nerd I am. 😉

  1. Dude I love this, definitely need to try it one day too! Did you “optimize” your route or did you go to the places based on the respective round of the game?

  2. That’s a fun game, but you were also lucky that you managed to fit it in a day. With some more remote places you could get very difficult to reach places that take far too long. How long did it take for you to prepare everything, make the schedule and so on?

  3. We’re not “lucky” to have such good transports. It didn’t fall on us from the sky. We worked hard for it and we maintain it because we are conscious of its value and quality. It’s not something was came as granted, it’s something we built and deserve.

    I’m being picky 😉

That’s a fun idea though, I should try that once, or the all cantons in 24 hours challenge
