What are the chances I’ll actually have to go to court if my jury service start date falls right when the strikes begin in January? I hate all the back-and-forth of it all 😅

Obviously I’ll attend if needed! I’m just curious whether anything is likely to go ahead.

  1. No idea about the strike, but when I went to jury duty, those that didn’t turn up were fined £100 for that first day, and it doubled each day you didn’t show afterwards.

  2. I would think if the strike is on you wouldn’t have to bother on that particular date. That being said if you got called you will have to attend when the trial starts. Just turn up, say you are a malignant racist prick while chewing on your big toe nail and you won’t get picked to serve.

  3. You don’t have to do it. Get your employer to write a letter on your behalf saying you’re needed in work, or you suffer from poor mental health. Bring on the “civic duty” downvotes lmao.

  4. Don’t make any assumptions. They take that shit seriously. If you have a letter that says turn up on X date. Just turn up.

  5. I thought they were doing away with the jury altogether

  6. You just need to check online the night before. It’ll tell you whether to turn up or not. Don’t just be a no show, they take a dim view of that.
