  1. But the guy on Tiktok said anything under 100k is totally unliveable and I need to buy his course on moving to Dubai so I can make “bank”.

  2. Literally no one measures their income by weekly gross pay, why do they make you convert it yourself

  3. 18-21: £25,948

    22-29: £33,696

    30-39: £41,860

    40-49: £45,240

    50-59: £43,212

    60 and over : £37,804

Saved you a click (and some math).

  4. Wages in this country are shit and we are in denial over this.

Something that never fails to wind uk redditors up. Go to an American job site and see how much the guy doing your job in VirgInia or Maryland or wherever is earning. If you’ve any kind of profession or trade he/she will be on about double what we get over here.

  5. Average Briton is earning less adjusted for inflation than 20 years ago.

  6. It says

in April 2025, the median gross annual earnings for full-time employees was around £38,100 according to the Office for National Statistics. This compares with £37,439 in April 2024, which is an increase of 4.3%

But £37,439 increasing by 4.3% would be £39,048.
How did they do their maths?

  7. It’s wild that they still publish this as weekly gross. These numbers are already depressing enough without having to do the mental math to see the annual take-home.

  8. Feels like around 40k is a very sticky number for salaries – problem is its not a great salary anymore outside of LCOL areas,

  9. in April 2024, the median gross annual earnings for full-time employees was around £37,439.

in April 2025, the median gross annual earnings for full-time employees was around £38,100

which is an increase of 1.75%.

Wages went up 1.75% over one year from the dates above shown.

  10. Jesus. Looking at that I’m glad I fucked off to Bermuda. $140k a year for a job I’d probably struggle to get 45k for in the UK.

  11. I don’t have the data to do the numbers, but I’d like to see if it’s possible to redistribute wealth to bring salaries higher.

I don’t think it’s a stretch for Drs, judges, engineers, politicians etc to earn high salaries. Equally, an entry level job should give you enough cash for accommodation, food, moderate leisure spending and pensions savings.

I grew up in the 90s on a very moderate household income. I was warm, well fed and had toys. We had moderate foreign holidays. Two used cars. I didn’t have all the toys and gadgets that my wealthier friends had, but I dread to think what standard of living I’d have now if I was a child and my parents were on same incomesz
