Has anyone heard of these symbols before? Apparently they exist on churches all across Europe, many of them dating back to the 11th century

  1. There’s one on display in the National Museum, with two benches so you can really take your time staring into its abyss.

They reportedly have the world’s largest collection of them in storage. Maybe people kept stumbling across them as they were renovating a building or something and decided they didn’t quite fit their vision, so they donated.

  2. Yes, sheela na gig is well known here. Female fertility symbol. Early churches often built on existing pagan site and beliefs.
