Burnley boss Scott Parker confirms captain Josh Cullen suffered an injury to his anterior cruciate ligament in Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Everton, which is expected to rule out the Republic of Ireland midfielder for nine months.
Cullen was forced off in the 53rd minuted after he twisted his knee and signalled straight away to the bench that he needed to come off.
“Nornally it’s about nine months so we are looking at that for now. It’s a huge blow for us on and off the pitch.”
This is a hugh blow to Heimir Hallgrímsson and Ireland who have been waiting on confirmation of the seriousness of Cullen’s injury.
Central midfield is an area of weakness for Hallgrìmssons’ side with Cullen playing 80 minutes in last month’s epic 3-2 victory over Hungary in Budapest before he made way for Jack Taylor who will be among the contenders to replace him in the starting XI in Ireland’s upcoming 2026 World Cup play-off in March.
