Police responded to reports of shots fired at the Willowbrook Mall in Wayne, New Jersey, on Tuesday night.

Wayne Police Chief Joseph Rooney said in a statement that gunfire erupted just after 7 p.m. in the food court following some sort of altercation and that multiple suspects were seen fleeing the scene.

No injuries were reported and some “subjects were detained for investigation,” Rooney said, adding, “At this time, the situation at Willowbrook Mall is under control and all are asked to avoid the area as the investigation continues.”

The initial call about shots fired prompted a massive police response.

NJ Transit said buses heading to and from the mall could face delays due to police on the scene.
