It was a tad warmer than that – about 1°C or thereabouts when I was going to go for a run round St Abbs this morning..and I spent at least 5 minutes swithering about it…then I saw some **really** mad bastards lugging their surfboards down to the beach and felt ashamed.
Glad I did it – the last of the baby seals were there looking illegally cute.

You’ll be fine. I was in Finland recently and it was -20°c. Took the car quite a while to defrost in the morning.
I’m from the Highlands too and it never fails to surprise me when someone else on reddit is as well haha (silly I know)! I did my post Christmas drive the other day and there was a hell of a lot of ice. It looked exactly like this pic, then I got to the city and it felt like I’d imagined it all 😂 Watch out for the stags, I had a few because they like to come down when it’s this cold nearer the roads.

I have commuted 10 miles to work in Aberdeen right through winter by motorbike in temperatures often approaching -20C.
Perhaps foolishly, I used an open-face helmet.
That was still better than working in North China for a couple of weeks, where the temperatures dropped below -40C. And *inside* the workshop it was below -25C, until we got them to put in some more coal-fired stoves.
Even in Glasgow, where I now live, one New Year’s day I got called out because the sprinkler system alarms were going off at my company.
It was -23C and the cylinder head had blown off the diesel engine that powered the sprinkler pumps. And several 100mm flanges had blown off the water pipes when they froze. We had to uprate the heating and insulation after that…
