Somalia denounces Israeli recognition of Somaliland • FRANCE 24 English

Somalia reacted angrily Friday (December 26) after Israel formally recognised the northern region of Somaliland as an “independent and sovereign state” – the first country to do so. Somaliland, which declared independence from Somalia in 1991, has for decades pushed for international recognition. US President Donald Trump said he opposed US recognition of Somaliland in an interview with the New York Post.

  1. Thanks to Israel now every Breakaway region in the world wants to be independent and will cause wars. Ogaden should declare independence from Ethiopia, NFD should declare independence from Kenya, Kashmir should declare independence from India, Kurdistan should declare independence from Iraq
Biafara should declare independence from Nigeria
Western Sahara should declare independence from Morocco and on and on

  2. WHY SHOULD THE WORLD RECOGNIZE SOMALILAND? Somaliland’s case for international recognition is grounded in legality, stability, democracy, and its strategic value to global peace. Legitimacy and Historical Rights Somaliland was an independent state in 1960. Entered a voluntary union that later collapsed. Lawfully reclaimed its sovereignty. Fulfills core principles of international law. Peace, Stability, and Governance 34 years of self-governance and security. Functional democratic institutions. Regular elections and peaceful power transfers. Strong rule of law and public participation. Clear Will of the People Popular mandate expressed through referendum. Consistent public support for independence. National identity firmly established. Recognition respects democratic choice. Regional and Global Security Contribution Stable partner in a volatile region. Enhances Red Sea–Horn of Africa stability. Reliable ally for international cooperation. Recognition strengthens peace, not conflict.
Recognizing Somaliland is not an emotional decision it is a legal, democratic, and strategic necessity for regional and global stability

  3. Somaliland declared independence from British on 26 June 1960, even before Somalia exist. Somalia got its independence from Italy on 1 July 1960, the same day Somaliland joint to form a federal country. But in 1969, General Muhammad Siad Barre took toppled the government and ruled the country. In 1991, he massacred the Somaliland people, and later Somaliland pulled back their state from the federation. So, it is absolute right of Somaliland to have their own country as they already exist even before the Somalia exist. Beside Somaliland, Puntland also already denounce the Somalia Federation in 2024, they pulled back from the federation too, just like Somaliland did 33 years previously. Puntland is located in northern of Somalia and eastern of Somaliland. It is located exactly in tip of the horn.

  4. We sincerely thank the State of Israel 🇮🇱🙏 for recognizing the State of Somaliland. This recognition is deeply meaningful and will not be forgotten.

Somaliland and Israel share common challenges, including striving for peace and security in difficult regional environments. Somaliland remains committed to stability, moderation, and cooperation. We look forward to building a strong relationship based on mutual respect and shared values.

  5. The conflict between truth and falsehood is eternal and will never end until the Day of Judgment. God willed and decreed this, making it a fixed cosmic law. The struggle between truth and falsehood is ancient, as old as life itself on the face of the earth.

  6. Wait, there is a historical precedence in East Africa that cannot be denied or ignored.
Nothing strange happened in East Africa because of the separation of former Italian Somaliland from Somalia.
Ethiopia lost it ancient Red Sea cost land Eritrea, which was colonized by Italy for 40 years until the end of WWII
Egypt, Sudan, Somalia itself, and other Arab countries armed and financed the Eritrean separatist rebels for 30 years till 1991. The Arab countries are responsible for the separation of Eritrea from Ethiopia. Even now Egypt is surreptitiously working hard to ensure Ethiopia remains a landlocked country without sea access.
Somalilanders are defacto self-govening people with established government.
The Arabs should remember what they did to Ethiopia. Eritrea is a stone throw away North of Somaliland.
The Arabs should repent first for creating Eritrea and then they can oppose Somalilanders' decision.
All who oppose Somaliland should also derecognize Eritrea. Both Eritrea and Somaliland were colonized by Italy.
If Eritrea is recognized as an independent nation, there is no political or historical justification not to recognize Somdliland as an independent nation.

  7. Somalia, I know you are reading this message, go back Jewish. You can't send me to Somalia, you're a Jew, I'm not a simple African or a compassionate Arab, so if you want me to intervene in Somalia, please do so.You have sought your destruction.

  8. All you need to look at is who is opposing it's recognition…then you will see it's the right thing to do! Thanks you Israel!

  9. It is about time someone recognizes Somaliland. Israel can train their army, sell them their old M60 tanks and A4 Skyhawks and supply them Israel's old Navy ships and train the Somaliland Navy. Somaliland can then pay for all this with the oil that is potentially in Somaliland.

  10. So Democrats gave Somalian money that Democrats couldve spent on black people but good thing they dont care about black people

  11. Well, the people in Somaliland have worked hard to have a much stable country compared to the rest of Somalia, which lacks an actual government. It's basically the same situation with Taiwan…

  12. You can complain all you want but the real shock is that it's only been recognized by at least another country in 2025

  13. Good for Somaliland. More nations should recognize Somaliland as a independent nation separate from failed pathetic Somalia
