Not enough resources to run a ticketed event and police it. Enough resources to build a barricade. It’s understandable when a child was murdered there two years ago.
Such a shame because the NYE view from Primrose Hill is beautiful. The whole horizon shimmers with fireworks and was free for everyone to enjoy.
Primrose Hill on NYE is carnage. It is impossible to police it effectively, as evidenced by the murder in 2023.
It sounds like this is the sensible option. It’s also supported by local residents.
what are some good alternatives to primrose hill for new years eve?

Easy to pull that fencing down
Surely this fencing isn’t much cheaper than paying for policing?
Those police will be deployed across the rest of London – protecting the public from the wrong-uns we’re constantly told don’t exist.
It is what it is.
But somehow Notting Hill carnival is still going ahead
Preventing crime aside, what I saw after the stabbing happened was:
+ difficulties in medics getting through the crowd to the victim
+ difficulties maintaining a police corden around the crime scene
+ Someone not understanding the tape tried to pass under and cut across before being told to keep the scene clear
(+ usual crowd density is similar to a mosh pit, or almost peak tube train)
It changed my feeling of new years to find out later that that is what the tape was for. Because the crowd was so dense you couldn’t tell unless you were right close by. It was so close to midnight that people celebrated NYE around the scene.
I don’t see how someone could be stretchered out without being bumped by drunk people who want to see the view or an ambulance safely moved to the peak where everyone wants to be.
Idk the answer but it seemed rescue options and dignity for the victim was missing

Fun is not allowed here. Please disperse.
Ever higher taxes, ever lower public services
