Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga expressed gratitude to Denmark for its steadfast support for Ukraine during Denmark’s presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The Ukrainian foreign minister announced this on X.

He added that Ukraine highly values the practical work to advance the opening of negotiation clusters and strengthen sanctions pressure on Russia.

“The efforts of the Danish Presidency of the Council of the EU laid a solid foundation for strengthening European security and defence. A key element of these efforts was supporting Ukraine’s defense capabilities and accelerating the integration of Ukraine’s defense industry into the EU’s industrial base. Thank you, Denmark, for standing with Ukraine in supporting the vision of a strong and united Europe.”

According to official sources, Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides stated that during its six-month presidency of the Council of the EU starting 1 January 2026, the country will continue to support Ukraine.

Key Moments of Denmark’s Presidency of the Council of the EU

Denmark’s presidency lasted from July 1 to December 31, 2025, under the slogan “Strong Europe in a Changing World,” with a focus on supporting Ukraine, security, the green transition, and the EU’s competitiveness.

Current priorities also included strengthening Ukraine’s defense capabilities and developing cooperation in the defense industry between the EU and Denmark.

Thus, Denmark’s presidency of the Council of the EU underscores the importance of its partnership with Ukraine and the strengthening of European solidarity in response to contemporary challenges.
