Alex Borg on Wednesday underlined the importance of unity and said the future of the country must be based on respect, courage and, above all, hope.

The Nationalist Party leader said in a New Year’s message that Malta is living through a time of opportunity, but also a time of major challenges.

Many people were feeling this reality every day – whether through the rising cost of living, the challenge of affordable housing, or wages that were no longer sufficient to keep up, he added.

He said he wanted a style of politics that talks less and listens more.

Borg explained that over the coming year, the PN will put forward more proposals that would prioritise the difficulties many people are facing.

He said that he believed in progress that is rooted in values.

“I believe in tradition. I believe in a Malta that is proud of its past and a Malta that is not afraid of the future. I will continue to work constructively, criticising when necessary while always putting forward proposals. I will remain steadfast and, above all, I will continue to offer my help whenever it is needed,” Borg said.

He pledged ‘to be there’ for those who had lost faith in politics – and, as a result, had lost hope for Malta and Gozo.

“I am with you. This is our moment. May the New Year bring us closer to a Malta that is fairer, stronger and more compassionate,” he said.
