Hello everyone,

I got 2 offers in computer science from Czech Technical University and University of Latvia, Now I am very torn about which one I should choose, if I choose CTU, which means I need to pay a higher tuition fee of about 5200 euros per year, compared with 2900 euros per year in UL, for study yeas, I just need to study 3 years in CTU, and 4 years in UL, but UL provided 4.5 months internship, and if I compute all fees including documents preparing fees, CTU seems more, because there are more translation fees to CZ and expensive insurance fees(I think the insurance is much better than Lativa, although it’s expensive), and I need to take nostrification, which will assign test to me as well.

So, CTU is relatively expensive and complicated, but for UL, I need to study for an additional 1 year, and it seems the reputation of UL is not good as CTU, Prague seems more competitive than Riga too.

My goal is to maintain a good GPA with a part-time job or even a full-time job if possible. I will continue to study for a Master’s degree in a country in western Europe.

Therefore, I really really do not know which one I should choose, any idea there ?

  1. What’s your goal? How do you spend free time?

You will spend years in the country, making friends and travelling around.

Living in LV you have 2 directions to travel – EE or LT. Culturaly I would recommend Czech as well.

IT is generally sought after everywhere.

CVUT is good, can recommend. No exp. with studies Riga. Also – 3 years might turn to 4 anyway, if you work at the same time

  2. From my experience at CVUT FIT, it’s hard to work while studying, but I do know people who manage a full-time job while studying. Definitely don’t take a full-time job on the first year, that’s a sentence to extend your studies to four years.

  3. I’d choose Latvia, no particular reason, I think both countries are great so I would choose the cheaper option ( not in terms of tuition, but overall cost of living )
