Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made a major announcement about changes to their charitable organisation that indicates future plans for their children, Prince Archie, six, and Princess Lilibet, four. The pair’s rare statement came with the announcement that they would change the name of the Archewell Foundation.

The new name would be Archewell Philanthropies, with a statement reading, “This charitable entity allows the couple and their children to expand upon their global philanthropic endeavours as a family.” This is the first time Harry and Meghan have referenced their children in an official capacity.

Royal expert Richard Eden said he believes the inclusion of the children indicates the couple plans to involve them in future endeavours.

Eden claimed to have spoken to an old friend of Harry’s, who said they were confused by the statement.

“I am genuinely confused,” the Daily Mail reports the friend told the royal expert.

“Harry and Meghan were always so insistent that their children would be able to make their own way in life without the pressure of expectations or titles.”

It comes days after the royal couple shared their annual Christmas card photo, which is the clearest image we have seen of the young children in some time, though much of their faces are covered.

Archie is seen in the photo hugging his father, while Lilibet holds hands with her mother.

Prince Harry and Meghan have opened up more and more about their children recently, despite wanting to keep their family life private.

Most recently, Meghan spoke about Archie and Lili during the launch of a project to combat cyberbullying.

Meghan spoke at World Mental Health Day in New York, where she said, “Our children, Archie and Lili, are just six and four years old.

“Luckily still too young for social media, but we know that day is coming.”

She continued, “Like so many parents, we think constantly about how to embrace technology’s benefits, while safeguarding against its dangers.

“That hopeful intention of separation is rapidly becoming impossible.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s longest-serving aide steps down

It comes as Prince Harry and Meghan’s longest-serving aide, James Holt, steps down from his role at Archewell.

James previously worked with Harry at Kensington Palace, and moved to LA with the couple when they stepped down as working members of the royal family in 2020.

In a statement, he said: “Working with Prince Harry and Meghan has been one of the great privileges of my career.”

“From my first project with Prince Harry eight years ago to improve mental health support for soldiers in the British military, to our recent work helping injured children in Gaza, he has consistently challenged me to think bigger about how we can make a difference.”

Speaking of meeting Meghan, James added, “I recognised a kindred spirit – someone who finds joy even in difficult moments and connects authentically with people regardless of circumstance.”

He shared that after five years living in LA, he and his family would be moving back to London.

“When I pass the baton to the team leading Archewell Philanthropies in the coming months, I’ll do so with immense pride and optimism for what lies ahead.”

“I’ll miss my colleagues deeply, and I’m grateful to Harry and Meghan for everything they’ve done – for me, and for the countless people we’ve worked to support.”

James will remain a senior philanthropic advisor for the couple and Archewell Philanthropies, supporting the couple’s humanitarian overseas trips in 2026.

Harry and Meghan shared their own statement, saying James was a “stellar support for us for nearly ten years”.

“As James moves his young family back to the UK, we are proud that he will continue to guide various humanitarian trips for us overseas through Archewell Philanthropies.”
