This linkage is insane.
Someone buying a stock at 10% higher than before “creates” wealth… but the total climate impact of that wealth creation is near zero. It’s a few watts of electricity updating database entries.
How about looking at actual climate impacts and what drives that?
And inequality does none of the things they mention in the article. People have been impoverished since as long as humanity has been humanity, with wealth inequality at far higher levels than now. Matter of fact, the wealth inequality, as well as overall personal levels of higher standards of living is higher than it has ever been on a global basis.
At the same time, our wanton use of fossil fuels as if we don’t make a mark on the dynamic systems of the planet is causing significant effects, and will cause many more. But that means people need to hold the actual real perpetrators of excessive high carbon usage and environmental destruction at task, and don’t get distracted by mindless distractions. It is all of us and a few of us at the same time.
Holy hell
Obscene
They should be taxed such that all $2.2 trillion goes back into the environment they’ve been destroying.
