Finnish police have detained a cargo ship named the Fitburg on suspicion of sabotaging an undersea telecommunications cable linking Helsinki and the Estonian capital, with authorities saying the vessel had been traveling from Russia’s port of St. Petersburg to Israel, in a region already on high alert after repeated incidents, as the eight NATO countries bordering the Baltic Sea respond to a series of disruptions involving seabed power cables and gas pipelines. Charlotte Hughes has the details.

  1. I read Russia (Soviet Russia) seized 13% of Finland territory in 1939 Winter war , when they attacked Finland. Russia to this day holds this territory and most people in Russia think Finland is Russian territory.

  2. Finally, a response other than writing a stern letter …… I mean, that’s never worked the last 20 times they tried that as a response to stop this obvious sabotage, maybe they’re finally paying attention to the obvious threat?

  3. Russia won’t stop doing these things, even after they are defeated in Ukraine. Only solution is to figure out a way to make cable cutting difficult enough for them to stop.

  4. Non-European flagged ships should be required to have an escort through the Baltic Sea, monitoring their anchor and actions. And they should pay for it themselves if they want to cross it.

  5. It wasn’t cutting cables!

It was smuggling nuclear material to Fatboy Kim!

The cable cutting ones are still out there.

  6. Why aren’t we just banning Russian ships (or foreign ships with Russian crew) from getting close to critical infrastructure like undersea cables? What is Russia gonna do, challenge us with their mighty navy?

China doesn’t give a shit about their neighbours sea border, the US Navy have literally become priates now and are just boarding ships and stealing oil. Why is Europe always acting so passive?

  7. Trump, are we paying attention?? That’s how it’s done!

  8. Russia is the turd that has not flushed in the world’s toilet for nearly a century.

  9. Permanent confiscation of Russian assets is the way as this increases the required resource input for their undeclared “hybrid warfare” against maritime infrastructure of NATO countries.

The ships and cargo could be sold and revenues used to repair damages and fund the Ukranian defense against Russian aggression. The captains and officers should be put on trial before a criminal court according to the respective national laws.

If this was done in a similar manner by all Baltic states and also included ships serving as “drone carriers” for recon drones spying on coastal military installations and port logistics, the Russian leadership might reconsider their continued harassment of NATO countries (*or at least give Solovyov and other orcish chief propagandists an actual reason to whine about in their domestic TV shows*).

  10. Folks if you don’t see that we are heading for another world war you are blind. China has said they will reunifi Taiwan. When China attacks, Russia will attack EU because they think it will give them a chance while the rest of the world tries to defend Taiwan. This is going to happen in the next 2 years. Mark my words.
