The EU is a “digital colony of the US”. This Italian is trying to change that, with some success.

She needs more support from us
While realising the irony of posting this to Reddit I do try to distance myself from US services as much as possible. I deleted most of my SoMe accounts and try to used EU based services.
Reality is nothing like the digital media that’s for one.
Maybe just provide your own defense and security.
LoL 🤣
Well things are starting to move, though very slowly.
In Denmark the first ministry has switched away from windows products. It is not so simple a task though unfortunately
the whole world is.
The linked eurostack translation post of the original Dutch is too long and novelesque for my patience.
What’s the TLDR?
Along the same line [this article](https://www.ft.com/content/854fcad0-0d39-438b-975b-adf9d8b89827) in the Financial Times.

It’s hardly just digital.
If the eco system for startups isnt there then none of it is fruitful.
Is there a non us Reddit clone?
Digital independence will literally take decades. I hope they’re actually prepared to put in the time needed. The biggest risk is people deciding to just forget about the whole thing when the US gets a new, less hostile administration.
To put things into perspective, most people in this sub today will likely spend at least half of their adult lives living in a Europe that’s digitally dependent on the US. Most politicians simply don’t operate in such long time horizons.
If the EU wants to stop being so dependent on US technology, it needs to punch its weight. Please don’t send me dozens of EU-based companies. We are talking about this on Reddit, you will use ChatGPT or Gemini to find companies, and when we want to procrastinate, we open Instagram or YouTube.
Not just EU, the world itself.
I’ll give that one to Trump. He made EU realize they US can’t be trusted. Hopefully EU will act accordingly with this information and move away from US dominant… (I lack a term for all internet-related software etc. windows, communication platforms. All those kinds of software, operating systems. English isn’t my first language)
Real rich coming from an Italian, given that they elected a far right anti-EU Trump of their own.

Honestly even though I think this is a good initiative and definitely needed (ideally made by people who have the technical know how), I feel like this is a group of people trying to get rich off of this by using the „digital sovereignty“ awareness caused by trump for their own personal gain.
I am more than happy to pay for an EU iPhone, EU Cloud/Photos storage and online services – but currently the choices and the functionalities are limited.
