According to a late 2025 survey, southeast Asians who focus on traditional media are more climate-conscious, with 74.8% viewing climate change as a serious and immediate threat, compared with only 66.0% among those who rely mainly on social media and messaging platforms.

Regarding the energy transition and phase out of fossil fuels, between 2022-2024, regional support for immediate phase-out declined, while support for delaying phase-out to 2030 and 2040 increased.

The report comes from ISEAS – Yusof Ishak Institute (formerly Institute of Southeast Asian Studies) an autonomous organisation established in 1968. It is a regional centre dedicated to the study of socio-political, security, and economic trends and developments in Southeast Asia and its wider geostrategic and economic environment.
