Sometimes, I feel as though Eastern Europeans (minus Russia and the balkans) are among the last sane people on this planet.
“It hasn’t been done properly yet”
Anticommunism is so deeply ingrained that people accept it without even realizing it. The amount of provably false shit they’ll start regurgitating is incredible.
Every goddamn time.
PAIN, PAIN IS IN THE WEST! Or as ve say, zrada!
“yeah school sucks, why would I need to know XX century’s history? Like I’ll ever need it.”
Eastern Europe is probably the future of Europe.
I cringe just as much when I see that, and my favorite pet peeve dumb as shit Americans that keep telling me Scandinavia is socialist.
A few more genocides and famines and it will finally work out.
Yeah easy to say sitting pretty with your free schools and free healthcare. People in US think of this as socialism. And some of us want that. Not the N.korea or venezuela.
it took a lot out of me to keep quiet during a history lecture where some white, american kid kept saying how communism is the shit. Thankfully our history prof was an old, angry Serb, and he had a lot to say about Communism 🤣
“If you are no communist by the age of 20, you have no heart. If you are communist by the age of 40, you have no brain”
forgot who said that
Law of extremes. “If a *little* of a thing is good, then it must be okay to go *completely overboard!*” This is the thinking I imagine goes through the heads of people who laud communism but actually want social democracy.
Coming from Slovenia (living in PL though), I have to say that Balkan people are very nostalgic about the time they were under the socialist regime in Yugoslavia. People tend to mix up communism and socialism, so the Western hemisphere is as ignorant as they come, unfortunately.
According to my parents, and many other boomers, living in Yugoslavia was really good. Everyone had a job, and an apartment or a house, salary was capped at 5:1, but everyone was on the same “page”, or you would leave on the next train to the “Naked Island”. So it was kind of the tradeoff of everyone having a very decent lifestyle, and the limitation to the so-called “freedom of speech. They were more than fine with this political system, because they had a good leader (i.e. Tito), they say.
Also, citizens of Yugoslavia had the ability to travel anywhere, which was a material differentiator compared to the communist regime out east.
Now that we have been observing an incredible widening of wealth disparity, so they are even more convinced capitalism is not the way forward.
I disagree with them, because we actually have one of the lowest income inequality gaps in the world, but there you have it – perspective from a “South Slav”, that is.
To be fair, you also got Americans that would call the Right-wingers in Europe “radical socialists”.
For pretty much anything left of the American status quo.
My parents didn’t think it was that bad. They lost their homes in 1992 so…
I am mexican. I was born in the 90’s and Mexico went through more political turmoil than usual. My grandparents had leftist beliefs and named one of my uncles Lenin. My middle name is also Lenin. I use it as part of my artistic name too. A couple years ago I went to Poland and made many people uncomfortable. A respectable professor once said out loud during lunch: “I will sit here next to Stalin”.
I return to Mexico, I change my artistic name from Lenin to my last name instead. Many friends still call me Lenin.
I pranked mother, who is now in Poland married to a polish artist, that I won’t be able to visit her this summer cuz they wouldn’t let me into the country with such name due to the War in Ukraine. She buys it. We had a laugh.
The vast majority of westerners praise capitalism daily, they just aren’t on Reddit or internet message boards. They’re out buying stuff they don’t need and throwing it away shortly thereafter.
this happens way too often.
How about old people in eastern Europe praising communism? “Za komuny było lepiej” isn’t just a funny saying, a lot of old folks truly believe that. So it’s kinda funny when people say that Eastern Europeans know that communism is bad cause they lived in it.
Communism disgusts me as an American
Who is praising communism?
Same here in Italy with fascism…
But… but… communishm ish when free shtuff like muh soylent and gender transichion right?
Eh, no surprise here. Pretty much every system looks fine on a paper. In reality, none works that good and usually differs only in which social caste or group have it better.
To be fair, I doubt Marx really intended his works for anywhere east of Wrocław and south of Gdańsk, the focus being on the already heavily industrialised societies of Western Europe.
Why the Bolsheviks got it in their heads that this was the system of government for them and what possessed them to think it was suitable to foist it on other nations in central Europe, the rest of eastern Europe and the Balkans I can only assume was some kind of misguided notion of superiority.
Communism is dumbest fucking system ever made
Change my mind
Me, a Pole, watching American alt-rights masturbating to our inept government and alt-lefts claiming we’re literally Hitler because we mildly dislike the gays.
Got banned on several Communist related subs, even for small mentions of how great it isn’t…
Imagine our current government. Now imagine both parties merging into one.
If the US did communism it isn’t going to be like they think it will.
It would be a good start if people would start properly distinguishing the terms. Very often communism, stalinism, bolshevism, marxism, socialism or even social democracy are beeing mixed up or used as synonyms.
How about Eastern European countries, which suffered the most from commies will make an international tribunal against them? I’m from Ukraine btw and it’s fucking banned here
Or hearing Americans saying “this is socialism!”
Poland isnt eastern Europe…..
You, an Eastern European not understanding that the way of production in the USSR was [Socialism in one country](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socialism_in_one_country) and the concept is generally criticized by your average Westerner praising Communism.
Wait I thought polish people didn’t like having their country referred to as Eastern European instead of Central European
I mean you literally can’t call whatever the USSR was a ‘classless, moneyless, borderless society’ it literally was none of the above. The nazi party called themselves socialist, North Korea calls themselves a democracy. You can’t let somebody taking the name alone basterdise an ideology.
Communism will never happen in our lifetimes, or for hundreds of years; it will be a natural progression from socialized systems, such as free school, healthcare, eventually water etc eventually transitioning into a lack of need for governance at all because the population recognizes a lack of need for a governing party.
At least from my perspective it’s obvious that providing housing and basic amenities such as food and water would create a far more productive and innovative society than a population forced to work to run from poverty/homelessness whilst we fill the pockets of billionaires that hoard wealth and do nothing.
While drinking Coca-cola
It’s an even bigger pain when you experience a razemek 🤮
My parents had their university for free in Poland in the 60s. I had student loans in Canada.
There’s a housing crisis here in Vancouver: middle class people leave the city because there’s no affordable housing. Many others, sleep outside, often creating homeless camps known as tent cities. There was also a housing shortage in the late 70s when I was born Poland.
Communism didn’t work, but should be praised for experimenting society away from feudalism;, the alternative isn’t the western neo-feudal society of Canada, the UK, America the g7 or any other neoliberal “democracy”.
Communism remains as a viable position to critique capitalism, at least intellectually, because communist, leftist, working class efforts via unions and political activism are responsible for great strides to tamp and control feudal orders like slavery, 16 hour days, wage slavery, racial and class discrimination and rent-seeking. Most of these characteristics of society were rote in feudal Europe and they are still firmly coded in Europe, east and west. Our freedom is merely formal, and the coercion to work or face starvation is brutal in Canada. We work hard and the rich just get richer. Homelessness is severe. Our taxes get scooped, to help the west fund a war machine for decades to rid the world of those scary communists.
I don’t want Stalin and Jaruzelski but Biden and Trudeau? No thanks either
A *communism* – perhaps not capital C Communism – one rooted in *community* is something I am happy to work towards, and I know many here in the west that are doing the same
If you’re Polish you’re Central European.
I know a person who is all for supporting Ukraine now (as we all should be of course) yet calls themselves a communist on social media. I guess those 8 million Ukrainians who starved back then don’t count anymore.
Remember people that communism is a totalitarian system
For real though. Then when you explain why communism is shit they respond with the classic “well it’ll be different this time”
It really amazes me how it’s socially accepted to display the Soviet hammer and sickle (a symbol associated with countless deaths and murders), but the Slavic pagan symbol of the sun will draw suspicious stares, even if stylised in a significantly different way than the Nazi swastika/Hakenkreuz…
I’ve lived under communism in Hungary in the fifties.
Anyone in the west praising that type of system is a mentally slow deranged fucktard.
That definition, of course, covers all Republicans; they already start off as half fucktards, then they start talking about Putin, get semi-hard and soil their undies with a little precum, making themselves full fucktards.
It’s basically a dictatorship where those with the slightest amount of power steal everything they can lay their hands on and brand their enemies in ways that send them to prison without trial for a very long time.
My favourite is the fucking neckbeards who refuse to distinguish between communism, socialism and socialist policies AND advocate for communism. Like, you can’t seperate sensical policies from my shit covered system! That’s illegal.
Privledged Yankees who never lived under Russian boot in communism now praise communism…
Jesus christ what’s wrong with them? Everytime I say “communism does not work, Poland tried it” they say “it ain’t real communism”…
Not saying that communism is great or an ultimate solution to people’s problems as tankies would like to portray it BUT y’all don’t know shit what you’re talking about. The USSR was as “communist” as Democratic People’s Republic of (north) Korea is “democratic”.
