As is often the case, the end of the year was marred by the deaths of several women. Behind closed doors during the holiday period – a time when domestic and family violence often intensifies – several acts that can be classified as femicides took place. The most recent case occurred in Mont-de-Marsan (southwestern France) on Christmas Eve. The body of Isabelle A., aged 44 – the subject of a missing persons investigation since the early morning of December 25 – was found buried in her ex-partner’s yard.

The suspect was questioned on Thursday, January 1, confessing to “having caused the death of his ex-partner after the Christmas Eve party and having hidden her body,” said Alexa Dubourg, prosecutor of the Republic in Mont-de-Marsan. The 41-year-old man had previously been convicted 10 times for traffic offenses and property-related crimes, but never for offenses against persons. Witnesses interviewed by investigators said that Isabelle A. had complained of domestic violence in recent months and had separated from her partner in spring 2025. However, due to a lack of financial resources, she reportedly continued to live with him, caught in a life marked by daily arguments and alcohol consumption.
