Ambulance wait times endangering patients, doctors say

  1. I’m not a doctor, but even I could have figured that one out!

In other news, paracetamol may also reduce the severity of headaches!

  2. “In October, nine-year-old Willow Clark fell off her bike on a country path in Hertfordshire, cracking her helmet and leaving her with a fractured skull and a nine-inch laceration across her leg.

“I could see it was a really bad accident and I was 20 minutes away from home screaming for help,” said her mother Sam. “These really nice people who were passing by phoned 999.

“They explained she had a severe head injury and her leg was badly hurt but we were told it would be a 10-hour wait for an ambulance and we’d have to get her to hospital ourselves.”

Sam’s husband had to drive through a farmer’s field to pick up his daughter.

When they got to A&E, Willow was immediately transferred to the trauma department. Doctors told her family that she should not have been moved because of her back and neck injuries.”

I don’t understand why this isn’t a national scandal. None of know when someone we know or ourselves will have a medical emergency. Years of underfunding have been exacerbated by Covid.

  3. Bloody annoying when it only gets attention when its a problem in England, people here would kill for that level of service.

  4. Two hours ago me and a colleague came across a guy collapsed in the road. It was a good wait just to speak to someone when we called 999. Thankfully there was a clinic across the road and they saw what was happening and administered proper first aid. Wouldn’t like to be relying on an ambulance if my life was on the line.

  5. My uncle had a stroke last week. He’s a big guy and my aunt is a small thing, he fell in an awkward place and she couldn’t move him.

After calling 999 she was advised it was a 5 hour wait. She was able to gather some help from neighbours to get him up and into a car and then drive him to a&e, though that took a while.

Unfortunately, due to the delay, there may be lasting damage. Also due to current visitation restrictions no one could go see him for about 5 days. Poor guy.
