In the last 2-3 weeks I have received five text messages asking for money to support Mark Kelly and his quest to fight the administration after his debacle with five others on disobeying orders in the Armed Services. Four of these texts came from Mark Kelly’s office and one from Gabby Gifford. Logically I have not answered nor contributed since Mr. Kelly’s remarks were not well thought out and if followed, would be detrimental to every American citizen as our Armed Services would deteriorate.
Like Mark Kelly, I am a U.S. Navy veteran. I am also a Vietnam veteran. In my wildest dreams I cannot picture my time in the U.S. Navy being surrounded by service members allowed to disobey an order because they thought it wasn’t right. In many cases service members are not aware of the overall plans for a mission. Orders for that plan must be carried out so the mission succeeds. To have people going any direction they feel, breaks down the entire system.
Mark Kelly did put in the word “illegal” but no one can state one illegal order that has come down from above and who in the field would make the determination of what was legal or not. Mr. Kelly also recently stated when he was commander of the space shuttle, he told his crew mates they had to tell him when they disagreed with his orders because lives were on the line. He may have said that, but I would bet “his” orders had to be followed in the end. If not, he was not a very good commander. Also, if he actually told them that, the statement would have been easy to carry out with the small crew of a space shuttle, but how about the thousands of military members in the air, on ship or in the field that can’t get to or tell their commanders when they disagree and why. Do they just merely not follow the order and have the mission fail?
Mr. Kelly’s comments were purely political, and as he has admitted, meant to undermine our president. Mr. Kelly, and many of his associates, do not want to work with the present administration and they spend more time fighting than helping this country progress out of the mess we are in. He says he is being bullied by the president and Pete Hegseth and threatened to be executed. In truth, turning our armed services upside down by having a U.S. senator suggest service members not obey orders, would be a great boost to our enemies. Adhering to our enemies is basically defined as treason. Treason has a number of penalties.
Sadly, I am ashamed to say that Arizona is not represented by the best of senators. Ruben Gallego also jumped in to agree with Mr. Kelly’s malicious and potentially dangerous statement. We deserve better than our senators catering to their TDS rather than spend time on the needs of their constituents. I sincerely hope people remember the careless statements, political infighting and lack of working together in our government the next time they go to the polls and vote. I am certain there will be better candidates out there to vote for than what we have now.
