WANA (Jan 03) – The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a statement strongly condemning the United States’ military attack on Venezuela, describing it as a blatant violation of the country’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity. The statement was released on January 3, 2026.
According to the Iranian Foreign Ministry, the U.S. military action constitutes a clear act of aggression and stands in direct contradiction to the fundamental principles of the United Nations Charter, particularly Article 2(4), which explicitly prohibits the use of force in international relations. The ministry stressed that such actions undermine international law and pose a serious threat to regional and global peace and security.
The statement warns that the consequences of the attack extend beyond Venezuela, arguing that continued military interventions of this nature accelerate the erosion of the international system based on the UN Charter and weaken the foundations of collective security. Iran called on the United Nations and all governments committed to the rule of law, peace, and international stability to unequivocally condemn the attack.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry also reaffirmed Venezuela’s inherent right to defend its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and right to self-determination. It emphasized the legal and moral responsibility of all states and international organizations—particularly the UN Security Council—to take immediate action to halt what it described as the illegal U.S. aggression and to ensure accountability for those responsible for planning and carrying out the attacks.
The statement comes amid reports from international media of multiple explosions in Caracas, the Venezuelan capital, in the early hours of Saturday morning. According to these reports, at least seven explosions were heard in southern parts of the city, with several areas experiencing power outages. Journalists on the ground said the blasts were strong enough to shake building windows, followed by the sound of aircraft flying at low altitude.
Venezuelan sources indicated that the residence of the country’s defense minister was among the targets. Local media also reported attacks on “Hegroti” Airport, the La Carlota air base, a naval facility in La Guaira, and the main telecommunications tower in Caracas.
In response, Venezuela’s foreign minister rejected any external attempts to bring about regime change, stating that such efforts—like previous ones—would fail. In an official statement, the Venezuelan government condemned the attacks as a serious act of aggression and a clear violation of the UN Charter, warning that the strikes represent a direct assault on the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and risk escalating tensions both regionally and internationally.
