Best 0.07 cents I ever spent

  1. Congratulations, your number has now been listed as active in a spam-caller database.
Get harassed exponentially more for the low low price of €0.07

  2. Congratulations on wasting 7 cents sending a message back to a spoofed number, with a message not even sent by a human being.

  3. Thanks for posting the phishing link. I sent an email to the abuse team of the Russian company that hosts the server, and they took down the server in ~30 minutes.

  4. Nah, that just either flags your number as active, or doesn’t do anything at all.

The better thing to do is to install a VM and go to the URL, preferrably with VPN too because those dudes could DDOS your IP if their little e-peen is hurt. Fill in bogus bank account details that look like real bank details. In the end you end up at a 2-factor screen that looks like your bank. The funny thing is, someone is behind that screen because 2-factor codes are only valid for a limited time. Usually there’s no input validation on those fields, so you basically have a direct chat with a scammer.

Source: I did this a couple of times, sometimes they can even send messages back in the error field and I got back “kkr belg”. Gave me a good chuckle.

  5. Just send it to the government (0,0003% they might actually do something), block the number and be happy.

Does help to update people on Reddit sometimes so they can guard over their elderly and less technologically inclined loved ones.

  6. I got the same message last week, same amount, better link, from a Belgian mobile number.

It freaked me out a little at first because that same day I had an appointment by phone with the FOD to help me fill out my taxes. I thought they already filled it for me and made an error because the amount was way too low 😛
