Ferry Ride Ends in Cuffs for Suspected Drunk Driver

A man spotted by an off-duty RCMP officer on the Bell Island ferry early in the afternoon on New Year’s Eve has been charged with drunk driving.

The officer noticed that the 35-year-old had driven onto the ferry, but suspected that he was under the influence.

He contacted RCMP who were waiting for the ferry on the Bell Island side, but the Torbay resident refused the breathalyzer.

Not only that, but police noticed a radar detector in the vehicle, which is a charge under the Highway Traffic Act. Police seized the vehicle.
