In a Saturday press conference regarding the U.S. strikes on Venezuela, President Donald Trump said he’s “not thrilled” with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The response was to a question asking if Trump met with Putin regarding Venezuelan President Nicholas Maduro, who, along with his wife, was captured Saturday during the United States’ operation.

Trump said the war between Russia and Ukraine should have never happened.

“We’re losing 25, 30,000 human beings. They come from two places that are very far away,” Trump said. “So, I’m not happy about it. I thought that would be something that would get solved.”

Russia is a key ally of the Maduro regime. The Foreign Ministry spoke out against the strikes on Venezuela on Saturday.

“We firmly call on the U.S. leadership to reconsider this position and release the lawfully elected president of a sovereign country and his wife,” the Foreign Ministry posted.

In a social post, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he is also engaged with NATO and Canada while communicating with the United States.

“Our discussions are moving forward along three key directions — security guarantees, reconstruction and a basic framework for a real rebuilding. Everything must be effective, dignified and conducive to establishing peace for decades. And this vision of ours is fully aligned with the vision of our key partners. I am grateful to our team for their thorough approach to negotiations,” Zelenskyy said.

He added they are preparing meetings in Europe next week, as well as upcoming meetings in the United States.
