Aussies slammed over ‘disgusting’ play

Slow play that has made a mockery of the required over rate has been a feature of the series, and it’s happening again today.

Former Aussie paceman Jason Gillespie (pictured) called out the hosts as the over rate crawled along in the first hour of cricket, calling their lack of progrress ‘disgusting’.

We’re currently two whole overs behind what’s required and the lack of a specialist spinner will only make things worse.

‘If someone’s picked at eight, they’re in [the team] for their bowling,’ Gillespie told the ABC.

‘I love Beau Webster, but I’m pretty sure that he’s not in the best four bowlers in the country.

‘I can’t get my head around it.

‘In Test cricket, part of the playing conditions is you need to satisfy bowling 90 overs a day, so you need to structure your bowling attack to satisfy that criteria.

‘Quite cleary the ICC doesn’t care about over rates, and Ben Stokes and Steve Smith don’t either.’
