World No.3 Alexander Zverev has secured Germany a clinical first-up United Cup victory against the Netherlands, beating Tallon Griekspoor 7-5 6-0 in Sydney.

The 2024 tournament champions got on the board early on Sunday, with Zverev’s win following a 6-2 6-2 victory for compatriot Eva Lys over Suzan Lamens.

Their comprehensive win followed Australia’s first-up defeat of Norway on Saturday night that came despite Alex de Minaur’s straight-sets lost to Casper Ruud.

Great Britain play Japan in the other United Cup day session in Perth on Sunday.

Germany next face Poland, who they beat to claim the title two years ago.
