But the goverment said that 450k for a house is affordable….
Perhaps I’m reading this incorrectly but they seem to be implying that a single person would rent a three bed house.
*The average cost of rent in Dublin city for a three-bed apartment was found to be £2,468 (€2,910) and monthly cost-of-living expenses were £754 (€889), while the average salary totalled £2,559 (€3,018), leaving a monthly shortfall of around £663 (€782).*
Conducted by CIA landlord? Why do I feel we are about to experience some freedom
“The average cost of rent in Dublin city for a three-bed apartment was found to be £2,468 (€2,910)”
We essentially don’t have three-bed apartments, as three-beds tend to be mainly in houses in Ireland. So, they’ve compared a standard form of living in continental cities, with a highly unusual form of living in Ireland.
That’s not to say Dublin is in anyway affordable, just a comment on using dodgy data.
There’s barely any 3 bed apartments in Dublin. Why are they seemingly the basis of this study? Why not a 3 bed mid terrace or semi-d? Also it seems to be based on a single person renting this 3 bed apartment which is stupid. This is a completely useless study. So of course r/Ireland is going to latch onto it like it’s gospel.
Have they taken into account that everybody has limitless overtime potential in Dublin and no boss has ever refused paid overtime to staff here.
Surprised to see that Lisbon is the third worst on that list (just behind Rome and London).
I’ve seen quite a few anecdotes on the sub about how much better it is than Dublin in terms of COL.
Insanely expensive, with nothing to show for it. Terrible public transportation, shit everywhere, with a terminal lack of amenities. Congratulations to everyone involved in making this happen.
Western Europe needs a massive crash and all the nimbys and investors need to lose their shirts.
Then we can start again.
Landlord walks by the bank. “That’s what an economically viable person looks like”
I’d often heard of the industrial wage being 37000, would have thought that’d be more around average
They used numbeo for their data, only looked at 56 cities where the majority where in the UK. Also the UK somehow managed to have like 8 of the top 10 most viable cities. I wouldn’t read too much into this. Also where is California/New York?
As someone originally from NYC I don’t understand how it’s not on this list. I’m calling bullshit…
Salary’s are much higher in NYC, so it nets out better.
