Anton Frondell scored the shootout winner as Sweden defeated Finland 4-3 to advance to the gold medal game at the World Junior Championship.

They will play the winner of the Canada-Czechia semifinal on Monday.

Both teams had chances to end the game in overtime.

Swedish forward Viggo Bjorck had four breakaways in the extra frame but was unable to net the winner. Bjorck also took the first shootout attempt for Sweden but was again stymied by Petteri Rimpinen.

Finland was given a power play with just over two minutes left in overtime, but was also unable to find the winner before the shootout.

Linus Eriksson, Ivar Stenberg, and Eddie Genborg scored regulation goals for Sweden.

Finland fell behind by one goal three times in the contest but found the equalizer each time with markers from Atte Joki, Jasper Kuhta, and Joona Saarelainen, who scored with six minutes remaining in the third period to force overtime.

More to come.
