Lewis Davies, 24, of Cei’r Dwyrain in Barry, was charged with two offences of shoplifting.
It was alleged that Davies stole four packs of cheese – valued at £16 – from Iceland on Holton Road on December 18.
Davies was also charged with stealing chocolate worth £94.50 from One Stop on Broad Street on December 20.
The defendant pleaded guilty to both charges at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court on December 22.
Davies was sentenced to a 15-month community order, and must complete a nine-month drug rehabilitation programme and 10 days of rehabilitation activity.
The defendant must pay a total of £110.50 in compensation to Iceland and One Stop, and £85 in costs and a £114 surcharge.
