Mildly infuriating. I’ve completed the Irish path on Duolingo, but there are only 1,700 words on the course, so I miss out on the final achievement.

Is that just 1700 all the way up to level 5 for each skill?
Do the Scottish Gaelic one, it’s been updated recently and is really similar
They update them from time to time adding new words and lessons and stuff, just hang around till you’ve the next 300
Unlucky son, great job getting that far though
What was your level of Irish starting and what do you think it is now?
Wow, in Irish there’s like 50k words, but still great achievement.
Haven’t tried Duolingo yet but goddamn does this screenshot make it out to be a game
Did you find your level of Irish improving OP? I tried before but got fed up with saying stuff like “The elephant went shopping” etc and I wanted more phrases I could use if you get me.
Dóigh go talamh é! 😀
Duolingo was better before they introduced the ‘hearts/mistakes’ the one time you’re going to make mistakes is when you are learning so why freeze you out when you make to many?!?
……trying to cajole people in to the paid version, me thinks.
As far as the badges go, you’ll never get Level 10 Scholar with Irish. And you can’t just go pick up another 300 words on a different course …
Duolingo has frozen further development on the Irish course. A few mistakes remain here and there, but reporting them won’t do any good. No new features will be added to the course either (such as the ability to slow down sentences, use stories, etc.).
Having said that, it’s not a bad tool. I started using it several months ago, and while I don’t feel very confident when speaking out loud, I have acquired a nice vocabulary (of less than 2,000 words). Treat like what it is, supplement your learning with other resources and enjoy the ride.
They‘re in the process of professionalising and standardising their content away from volunteer created content towards the recognised CEFR standards of language proficiency made by linguists and language teachers. Irish being only a medium popular course compared to the tens of millions that are studying French and Spanish with the app it might be years however before Irish gets a proper update.
I tried the Irish course a few years ago and it sounded like it was recorded in someone’s kitchen in a house next to a busy road. Has it improved?
Uafásach.
Why didn’t you post as gaelige OP?
Hate that
