Croatia is preparing to align its legislation with a new European Union directive that will introduce significant changes to driving licences across member states.

Among the key changes are the introduction of digital driving licences, stricter rules for young drivers and the possibility of more frequent medical checks for older drivers. The new measures aim to modernise the licensing system and improve road safety across the EU.

All European Union member states, including Croatia, will have a four-year transition period to adapt their national regulations and implement the new rules.

One of the most notable changes is the introduction of digital driving licences, which will allow drivers to store their licence electronically. However, drivers who prefer a traditional approach will still be able to use a physical driving licence.

Further details on how the new system will be implemented at the national level are expected as Croatia begins the process of aligning its legislation with the EU directive.
