A photo contest is accepting submissions to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Thailand and Iceland.
The competition is organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Royal Photographic Society of Thailand and the Embassy of Iceland in Tokyo to celebrate the longstanding friendship between Thailand and Iceland. Despite their geographical distance, they have cultivated bonds over five decades.
The contest provides an opportunity for the general public of all ages and nationalities to reflect the relationship between the two countries through the medium of photography.
The contest offers total cash prizes worth over 160,000 baht. Winners will receive Grand Prize, 1st Runner-up, 2nd Runner-up and Honourable Mention awards, as well as complimentary gifts.
It is open to applicants of all ages and nationalities. However, they must reside in Thailand, or if residing in other countries, they must be able to travel to Thailand to receive the award in April 2026.
Submission is running from Dec 26 until Feb 27. Each applicant may submit up to 10 items. Submitted photos must have been taken between Jan 1, 2011, and Feb 27 next year. Infringement on the rights of others is not allowed.
Iceland is located between North America and Europe. Known as “the land of fire and ice”, it is the country of extreme contrasts and vivid landscapes, ranging from active volcanoes and glaciers to northern lights.
Thailand and Iceland have enjoyed strong cooperation at all levels. Signed early last year, a Free Trade Agreement is expected to take effect this year. Meanwhile, people-to-people ties, especially through tourism, are growing.
