Action brought by IPSO against the ECB concerning restrictions on staff representatives’ media engagement, published in the Official Journal

On 5 January 2026, the Official Journal of the European Union published an action brought on 13 October 2025 before the General Court of the European Union by the International and European Public Services Organisation (IPSO) against the European Central Bank (Case T-706/25, IPSO v ECB). The applicant seeks the annulment of three letters adopted by the ECB on 15 May 2025, 17 July 2025, and 1 August 2025, as well as an order for the ECB to pay the costs. These contested letters involve the ECB’s assessment of media statements made by IPSO’s Vice-President in his capacity as a staff representative and the subsequent regulation of how staff representatives and trade unions engage with the press.
